Some Devices Will Now Appear as MSFT 50 XBOX
New DHCP Client-Side Feature in Windows 10 April 2018 Update
What's New?
The DHCP client in Windows 10 has been updated in the April 2018 Update. This update introduces a new client-side feature that will cause some devices to appear as "MSFT 50 XBOX" in DHCP requests.
MSFT 50 is the vendor class identifier (VCI) for Windows devices. DHCPcd-5.5.6 is an Android device. Its VCI in the DHCP request is "android-dhcp-13", which corresponds to an Android device running Android 13. MSFT 50 corresponds to a Windows device.
In addition to the new VCI, the traditional Client Vendor Name has also been updated for some Windows-based devices. This value used to be simply "MSFT 50". Some devices will now show up as "MSFT 50 XBOX".
The vendor class is used by DHCP clients to optionally identify the vendor and configuration. This information can be used by DHCP servers to provide customized DHCP options to clients.
