WEB Qualifier Alejandro Tabilo Wins First ATP Title in Auckland Over Taro Daniel
Alejandro Tabilo has won his first ATP title in Auckland, defeating Taro Daniel in the final. The Chilean qualifier hit 37 winners in the match, including 10 aces, and saved all four break points he faced. Daniel, who was playing in his first ATP final, put up a good fight but was ultimately unable to match Tabilo's power and consistency.
Tabilo's victory is a major breakthrough for the 24-year-old. He had previously only reached one ATP semi-final, in Santiago last year. But he has now shown that he has the potential to be a top player on the tour.
"It honestly feels surreal," Tabilo said after the match. "I've worked so hard for this moment, and it's finally here. I'm so happy to have won my first ATP title."
Tabilo's win is also a boost for Chilean tennis. Fernando Gonzalez was the last Chilean man to win an ATP title, in 2009. Tabilo's victory shows that there is a new generation of Chilean players who are ready to make their mark on the tour.
