Arsenal have been slammed for their 'shameful' signing of Kai Havertz from Chelsea, with critics accusing the club of 'lacking ambition'.
The Gunners have completed a £65m deal to sign the German midfielder on an unspecified long-term contract, making him their fourth major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira.
However, the move has been met with widespread criticism, with many pundits and fans questioning Arsenal's transfer strategy.
"It's a shameful signing," said former Arsenal defender Martin Keown. "They're signing players from Chelsea now? What does that say about their ambition?"
"They're not going to challenge for the title with a squad full of Germans," added former England striker Alan Shearer. "They need to be signing the best players in the world, not the best players in the Bundesliga."
Arsenal fans have also expressed their disappointment with the signing, with many taking to social media to voice their concerns.
"This is a joke," said one fan. "We're never going to win anything with a team full of Germans."
"Another German? What's the point?" added another.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has defended the signing, saying that Havertz is a "world-class player" who will "add a lot of quality" to his squad.
"He's a young player with a lot of potential," said Arteta. "He's a great addition to our squad and I'm looking forward to working with him."
Whether Havertz can prove his critics wrong and help Arsenal challenge for the title remains to be seen. But for now, the Gunners are facing a lot of criticism for their latest signing.
